Concrete Equipment Pad Guide

Equipment pads look simple, but the wrong size or spec creates issues that are much harder to fix once the equipment is on top.

Match the Equipment

Pad dimensions should exceed the equipment footprint. Manufacturer specifications often list a recommended pad size that accounts for clearance and access.

Loads

Generators, HVAC condensers, and pool pumps all carry different weights. The pad needs to support the intended equipment without settling.

Vibration and Service Access

Some equipment vibrates. Others need routine service. A pad that's too small makes both problems worse.

Drainage

Pads should shed water rather than pool it. Standing water at the base of equipment shortens its life.

Anchoring and Utility Access

Anchor bolt patterns, electrical stub-ups, and refrigerant line routing all deserve attention before the pour.

Location

Where the pad lives affects both installation and long-term service. Keep clearances open and future access easy.
